It’s hard to believe we’ve been coming to Cape May, NJ for nearly thirty years.
The Depot Travel Park
Our favorite campground has always been The Depot Travel Park—and we still love staying here. It hasn’t changed much, and that’s exactly what we love about it.
THIS CAMPGROUND HOLDS A LOT OF NOSTALGIA FOR US. OUR VERY FIRST CAMPER, A 1999 COACHMEN TRUCK CAMPER, SPENT MANY NIGHTS HERE AS WE STARTED OUT TRAVEL GROOVE. PULLING INTO THE CAMPGROUND FEELS LIKE COMING HOME.
We rolled in for Memorial Weekend and spent the first few hours puttering around—dialing in Big Mama, setting her up, and uncovering a few things we didn’t actually need.
We were working our way into that weekend rhythm, making sure she felt like home.
Before the sun set, we set out on our bikes—Louie in his basket, ears in the wind, checking the scene. The evening air was crisp and cool as we headed back to camp.
At Camp, T pulled out his guitar just as the sky faded to night. One song led to another, and strangers stopped to listen. We met a few new faces, took louie on short walks and let the evening unwind around us.
“Strangers stoppin’ strangers, just to shake their hand.”
—The Grateful Dead, “Scarlet Begonias” (1974)
Over the weekend, we ventured out to a couple of new places.
Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum

An old wwII hanger turned hands-on exhibit, at the cape may airport. It's dog-friendly, and louie walked through rows of planes and even sat in an open cockpit. an usual visit full of history, and well worth the stop.
Higbee Beach

A long stretch of bayside sand where Louie could run. We watched the Cape May–Lewes Ferry cross the water, and Louie chased the seagulls like it was his job.
