Cape May Food Tour
Louie-Approved Stops & Local Bites
We came for the beach and quiet camp mornings—but let’s be honest, we love the hunt for a great meal. Cape May served up more than a few. It turned into its own kind of magical mystery tour—complete with tacos, cookies, and Louie spotting more than a few squirrels along the way.

We cooked campsite-side for a good portion of the trip, thanks to some of our trusty gear. You know the type—packs down small, fires up fast, and gets dinner going before Louie starts circling the table like a tiny food critic. We'll share more soon about what made the cut in that kit (hint: our cook set made multiple appearances).
But even with our solid setup, some meals just called for a local bite.
Let’s just say… this place became our unofficial kitchen. Tidy, well-run, and stocked with everything from fresh produce to prepared meals that are homemade—they’re that good. We were there so often the staff probably started recognizing Louie—and yes, it’s dog-friendly, which bumped it even higher on our list.
From sandwiches to sesame noodles, everything we grabbed was fresh and full of flavor. And don’t get us started on the cookies and brownies. Actually, do. Because we went back more than once just for those. Love dessert research.
Westside Market (May 2025)
This place became our unofficial kitchen.
Right down the road from the Depot Travel Park (where we stayed), this spot had everything we needed for a late breakfast or easy lunch—outdoor seating, good food, and a “stay a while” vibe. The kind of place where they bring water out for your dog before they bring your latte.
Earthy eats, friendly staff, and plenty of options to keep things light after a few too many campsite marshmallows. Louie gave it four paws up—and wanted to chase the sighted squirrels.
Bella Vida Cafe' (May 2025)
Louie gave it four paws up.
One of those places you try once and immediately wish you'd ordered double. Right along the beachfront strip, this Mexican spot served up some of the best tacos we’ve had in a long time. We took ours to-go, parked it on a bench, and called it lunch with a view.
T kept muttering something about “you can’t always get what you want… but if you try sometimes…” —guess we’re going back next time to try the rest of the menu. Louie agreed. He gave a few barks of approval, and a fellow passerby couldn’t help but stop to pet him.
Taco Caballito (May 2025)
We took our tacos to-go.
Duckie’s Farm Market
Located right at the entrance of the campground, Duckie’s was our go-to for last-minute provisions and those little market surprises (old-fashioned rice pudding, anyone?). It’s casual and convenient—plus Louie appreciates any stop where he can people-watch and get a head scratch.
We didn’t swing by this trip, but it’s still a top memory from our last stay. Picture this: fire pits, open-air bar, live music, bar eats, and yes—dogs welcome.
We love telling the story of how Louie almost got into a bar fight with a loudmouthed dachshund who was clearly overserved on attitude. A little side-eye, a few growls, and then… a hug-it-out moment by the firepit. Classic vacation diplomacy.
✨ We’ll be sharing a closer look at our Campsite Kit soon—what we use to cook, clean, and keep things tidy when we’re making meals outdoors. Think griddle mornings, campfire dinners, and all the tools that make it easy. Stay tuned if you're craving a simpler setup that still delivers big flavor.
Thanks for riding along,
